Please join us in honoring a remarkable
person who loved life and lived it to the fullest, making
friends along the way and inspiring us all.
Chris surrounded herself with people and
activities that gave her great joy:
her family and friends, the arts, the great outdoors,
and tennis. She
enjoyed the challenge of learning the game of tennis and was
committed to becoming a better tennis player.
Her passion for the game was fueled by the many special
friendships that she developed during her years of playing
social and competitive tennis.
To honor Chris, a committee of family and
friends is organizing the “Chris Burge Classic Tennis
Tournament” to raise funds for Non-Smoking Lung Cancer Research at the
University
of Colorado
Cancer Center. Although Chris
never smoked, she was part of a growing unfortunate group of
non-smoking women who are diagnosed with lung cancer.
Cancer researchers are seeking the reason for a 20%
increase of lung cancer in non-smoking women.
This year is the 2nd annual tournament
and will be held October 17-19, 2008, at the Miramont Lifestyle
Fitness South and Colorado
Tennis
Center. Tennis
tournament players and guests will be invited to join us in
celebrating the memory of Chris with a gala evening of food, awards, prizes, Live and Silent Auction on Saturday night, October
18th,
at the Miramont Lifestyle Fitness South.
The proceeds from this event will go to award
two $1,000 scholarships to a male and female Northern Colorado
high school senior tennis player to apply toward their college
education; and Non-Smoking
Cancer Research at the
University
of Colorado
Cancer Center. Applications
for the scholarships will be available from high school
counselors for student submittal to the Miramont Lifestyle
Fitness. Thank You - Shireen Updegraff
